About Us
Our Story
At our heart, we are lovers of food. We appreciate the little things- the shatter of a browned croissant, the smell of onions sauteing in butter, the juice dripping off a perfectly in-season peach, and above all, sharing and savoring those with others. It’s only natural that Galette began with the idea of teaching in-home cooking classes. We (Morgan Perkins and Ashley Thomas) met while teaching at Sur la Table, but wanted the ability to write our own recipes and create a more personalized experience, so the first two years of Galette’s conception, we focused on just that. We wrote menus and designed class plans for everything from macarons and croissants to homemade pasta and holiday canapes. We loved what we did, but having an event-based business while trying to keep it affordably priced proved to be a challenge.
In 2019, we pivoted and focused our business on small-batch baking. Working out of a shared kitchen allowed us to sell our galettes, donuts, cookies, and French-inspired bakes through Community Farmers Markets and the Avondale Estates Farmers Market. We were growing and started to dream of having our own brick-and-mortar space which would allow us to expand our offerings. We started looking for second generation restaurant spaces to call home and were days away from signing a lease for a charming Avondale Estates bakery in March 2020. Clearly, the world had other plans. The global pandemic forced us to put our plans on hold and essentially we hunkered down and got really into sourdough. By January of 2021, we got back into Farmers Markets and began once more the journey to our brick and mortar bakery.
Galette (the bakery) opened its doors in August of 2024 and we are thrilled to be continuing our journey in the community that has seen us grow from our days with the Avondale Estates Farmers Market to our little shop in the Historic Avondale Estates Tudor Village.
